air cleaner for cigarette smoke

Commercial Air Cleaning Products Indoor air quality (IAQ) is worse than most of us realize. Indoor concentrations of pollutants range from 2 to 100 times greater than outdoor concentrations causing unhealthy and unproductive environments. Experts call it "sick building syndrome" (SBS) which causes headaches, sinus congestion, fatigue, nausea, dizziness, eye irritation, coughs and sore throats. SBS can occur in any building. Companies, restaurants, bars and other public facilities can benefit from UAS’ commercial air cleaning equipment to keep their employees and patrons healthy and safe by providing a clean environment. Our Smokeeter® and Crystal-Aire® commercial air cleaners are highly effective at reducing airborne pollutants like tobacco smoke, food odors, dust, bacteria and pollen. View the Indoor Air Quality Brochure for additional information. United Air Specialists is the maker of the original Smokeeter brand of air cleaning systems. Installed in the ceiling, on the wall or concealed above, Smokeeters (pronounced smoke eaters) clean the air using electrostatic precipitator (ESP) technology.

Smokeeter Commercial Indoor Air Cleaner The modular Crystal-Aire system is ideal for heavy concentrations of smoke and odors. This concealed system also uses ESP technology to effectively reduce cigarette smoke and other airborne odors. Crystal-Aire Commercial Concealed Air CleanerTell smokers to go outside unless you want to spend hours cleaning walls. The nasty and stale stink of cigarette smoking lingers inside a house or room long after the cigarette is out and the smoker is gone. It also causes a yellowish tar and nicotine discoloration on the walls that hardens with time. Whether you just quit smoking, moved into an apartment that had been smoked in or bought a house from a previous smoker, don't get discouraged: You can remove the stink and the smoke stains from the walls. The White Vinegar Solution More than one method removes tar and nicotine cigarette stains from walls. Start by adding warmed vinegar to a spray bottle for tough stains. Dilute using a one-to-one ratio with warm water for less noticeable stains.

Apply the warmed vinegar or mixture directly to the walls.

Combine a tablespoon of ammonia for every cup of water, or roughly 1/2 cup of ammonia to a gallon of warm water. For painted walls, reduce the mixture to 1/4 cup to a gallon of water. For a stronger solution, increase the ammonia to a full cup. Apply the cleaning agent directly to the wall and let it sit for about five minutes before wiping it off.

Follow with a clean rinse of warm water. For Tough Cigarette Stains Trisodium phosphate works best to get rid of tough stains because it also degreases the tars from cigarette smoke. You can find trisodium phosphate where you normally purchase household cleaning agents or at your local home improvement or hardware store. Wear gloves when you apply it to the walls after mixing 1 tablespoon in a gallon of warm water. To avoid streaks, start at the bottom of the wall and work your way up. Let the mixture sit on the walls before wiping it off. Rinse with a sponge dipped in clean water, changing the rinse water often as you work. Once walls are clean, they might require a primer and paint coat to freshen them up. Choose a primer product that can cover tough stains. The Smoky Smell All of these solutions can remove the cigarette stink from the walls, but the smell may linger inside the home and recontaminate the walls if you forget to clean the filters for the home's HVAC system. As you clean the walls, ventilate the house thoroughly.

If the house has a whole house fan, turn it on or temporarily set a large reversible square fan inside a window to vent the household air outside. Remove and clean washable cold-air return filters or replace them completely. Clean the grates around the cold-air return to remove tar and nicotine stains. Clean the carpet and drapes thoroughly to get all the offensive odors out of the home. No members of her family smoke. But in many apartment buildings, if one resident smokes, other residents suffer increased particle counts and the unpleasant smell of smoke in their apartments.

That’s what happened in Christina’s building. As a medical office receptionist, Christina has a special awareness of the impact of cigarette smoke on a family’s health. “I just hate the second-hand smoke!” Room air cleaner to the rescue About two months ago, Christina installed a Smoke Sentry, our small but small powerful room air cleaner. The Smoke Sentry can be configured with a HEPA filter to capture particles and an activated carbon filter to capture odors from invisible chemicals. Christina’s Smoke Sentry runs about six hours each day. Before acquiring the Smoke Sentry, here’s how Christina described the smell of her apartment:It smelled like we were smoking also.” Now Christina says the air in her place is definitely improved and she successfully avoids second-hand smoke. When asked how she likes the Smoke Sentry, she said: Christina’s drive to create a healthy environment for her and her loved ones is admirable.

The Smoke Sentry is designed to be effective in second-hand smoke situations. Its HEPA filters are true HEPA, not ‘HEPA-like.’ (The HEPA acronym stands for High-Efficiency Particulate Arrestor or High-Efficiency Particulate Air.) True HEPA filters are manufactured and tested to in accordance with current HEPA filter standards — and that’s what we do. Christina’s decision to run her Smoke Sentry for hours at a time is a good one. As a room’s air is pulled through the air cleaner’s filters, each pass can remove a particle that may have slipped through on an earlier pass. As shown in the following graphic, one test we carried out showed an 80% reduction in particles after the Smoke Sentry ran for 90 minutes. Inhaling very small particles is not good for your body. The smallest particles, measured on the nano scale and sometimes called ultrafine particles or UFP, can travel from the nasal passages throughout the body. Some may travel to the brain, where they can cause inflammation.
