How Does Cleaning Your Blu-Ray/CD/DVD Player Work? A typical symptom is you insert a disc in the player and after a while;

the CD tray opens again with the message referring to no disc being in the system. This can be infuriating because you can see that there is a disc, however, the CD / DVD player cannot. Every time the tray closes, the laser beam fires two long bursts of laser light, and the focusing platform moves up and down attempting to focus the beam. This is the time when it is looking for a disc. If the laser has failed, then it will not be able to detect a CD and therefore the error message appears. I normally do two things when this happens. I normally clean the lens just in case there is dust on it obstructing the laser path. If cleaning the lens does not solve the problem then I make sure the laser is working. Obviously one should never look directly into the laser unit, you would have to be plain stupid if you did that. The laser light is bright enough that one can see the diffused red light from a distance obliquely. A piece of paper the size of a standard CD within the tray can also help, because when the tray closes, one can see the diffused red light on the paper.

It is usually bright enough and visible from the other side of the paper. If there is no red light, then the laser has failed. Back in the 1990s, I used to fix many of these and it was always either the spindle motor or the laser that failed. These two components are in constant use and wear out the most. Laser diodes do not last forever, especially on the early players manufactured in the 1980s. It would be very surprising to find a player still working from that era. Most of those units used cheap motors where the brushes wore out within a few years. Moreover, if that did not fail, then the laser surely would. The laser diode manufacturing process was not as refined either, and those diodes had a short finite life to them. Most of those early CD players would be hard to find as they often ended up in landfill. I have come across many high-end players of recent time that use the same cheap mass produced drive mechanisms. Moreover, most of those failed within a few years as well.

Its operation becomes sporadic, which can confuse the user. It might work one minute, but not work the next. Alternatively, it might work for some CDs and not for others. From the user's point of view the player initially starts becoming temperamental, and then stops working completely and unable to read any disc. If you have an old player that is getting temperamental, then now is the time to buy a new one.

I would highly recommend a Blu-ray CD player. The latest players have more functions, better picture quality, and are at half the price!Kenwood cd player won't read cd, now won't take cd at all?? I would REALLY appreciate any help. I have searched all over the net for any places to post questions about Car cd players, and getting help with them.But,Starting 2 days ago (The FIRST DAY it was COLD here) I go to put a cd in as I do EVERY MORNING it just spits it back out and goes back to the Tuner. The first day it done this, it done it for over an hour, through my 1 & 1/2 hour drive. I would try to put it back in every 5 mins or so, FINALLY I tried to put a cd in UP SIDE DOWN, it STAYED IN, then I ejected and put it in normal and it ACTUALLY PLAYED.. And FINE the rest of the day, through MANY CD'S.I get up yesterday morning and it is doing the SAME THING. Now I am VERY annoyed at this point. So, I do what I think is the ALL MIGHTY FIX, put the cd in upside down, it just spits it out, it finally keeps it after about 10 tries, I then try to put it in normal again, and there it is...

just spits it back out.Then I try to put it in and it acts as if a CD is IN the player already. Normally the mechanism takes over as you put a cd in and takes it in, but it just won'take it, I press the EJECT button and it keeps making a sound like its ejecting a cd, but it does nothing. So, now it won't even take a cd, AT ALL. It comes up with an ERR msg!It is a Kenwood, removable face, w/ remote, sirius ready player.I have had it since I baught my car almost a year ago, and it has worked perfect since I have had it. I don't know what is going on. But, I would really appreciate any help, cause I dont' want to get back into the car and have to deal with that again, cause I think I might RIP IT OUT of the dash. It really gets to me. I try the usual CD LENS CLEANER CD. I'm going to get one and try it out. But, I'm wondering if it will even take the cleaning disk. That is what really confuses me. Before it would just sound like it was trying to read it, then spit it back out. Now it won't take a cd at all.

You know how when you go to put a cd in, and the mechanism pulls the cd in? It's not doing that now, its like that mechanis doesn't kick in, and however far you push it in, it just stays there, you can press eject and it will Push it the rest of the way out. I read that removing the cable to the battery helps sometimes, on some cars, and cd players. It didn't do anything though. The error it comes up with is E - 99I wasn't sure what it was before, but I messed with it this morning and that is what the error is.I will see if I can use one of those cleaners, I will get one in the next few days... I will let you guys know if that makes a difference.. I wish I know how to remove the cd player, OR at least the FRONT PART. It is a detachable face, but I need to remove that part UNDER where the face attaches to.

In that manual it shows that you need these 2 little tools, WHICH I DON'T HAVE :\if anyone can help me out in some way I would really appreciate it. From what I have read on the net.. allot of people have had the E-99 Error code, but there hasn't been many answers.I just wish someone would say. I had the error 99. Reader woud not take cd etc. I hope it could help. Hey buddy I have a kenwood kdcx969, and it is doing the same exact thing and I cannot get it to take in a cd either. I put in a disc and it will act like it's going to take it but it never actually loads it, it just spits it back out and flashes this message on the display (LOAD ERROR) I have been trying to find some help on line for like two weeks I was so happy to see your post, because at least I know someone else has had this problem.

I also have a Kenwood KDC-3024 in my car, a one year old radio/CD player, and although the radio works perfectly, i have a problem with the CD - it demonstrates the exact symptoms descibed by Tre2006 and displays E-99. The manual says: see a service provider.... If I find a solution i shall let you guys know.Got stuck re set hit the dash with my (slow) fist hits (worked before) nothing, would not eject cd? So this is how I got it out fast! Push eject then got a business card held it long way with narrow end between my fingers and gently inserted it 3/4 of the way from right to left and the cd ejected quickly!Good luck hope it works! Note: It was a factory cd with raised art work print? This cd did this in both of my vehicles same Kenwood unit except the fist hits worked on one vehicle not on the second one, but the business card did the trick!

I have a KENWOOD KDC-BT318U. But just as Dr.Dre beats, Louis vutton and even rolls royce can be seen on actual items they are known for making, doesn't mean that they are..China can replicate almost anything and sell it for 80% cheaper in bulk purchases due to inferior parts, parts that fail or don't work at all.. I bought mine in the box, at a stereo shop, in San Diego ca, they only charged me $100, for kit and install. Thats not really a kenwood price, being old school and all from the iasca competion days.. but fortunately, I don't use the cd honestly, until i was given a cd today. It took the cd the very first time.. after the eject and next insert, fail fail fail fail fail.. it continues to say PLEASE EJECT in CD mode with no cd in it. I'm not to upset though, cause I've mounted my ipad pro 12.9 to in front of dash, it's all working on Bluetooth.. but the idea of having something that you felt good quality from a reputable source still doesn't go over well.. but the old saying goes..
