While folks outside Asia are still waiting for the Pure Hot + Cool, Dyson is offering everyone something more special for the time being: the Pure Cool Link. As you can probably tell from the name, we finally have a Dyson fan that comes with an app (for both iOS and Android). Better yet, it even tracks your room's air quality, and this data is used for automatically adjusting the airflow in order to suppress pollution level; though the app also offers manual control over the fan speed, along with rotation toggle, timer and a night-time auto mode for quiet monitoring plus dimmer LED display. To make the Dyson Link app more worthwhile, the company teamed up with air quality data analytics company, BreezoMeter, in order to let you compare your home's air quality, temperature and humidity with live outdoor data.

The Pure Cool was designed in keeping with Dyson’s commitment to compact technology and design. The small DC motor is wrapped with a high-efficiency 360° Glass HEPA filter that draws in air from all angles. This technology is designed to keep potentially toxic ultra fine particles completely trapped within the filter. The 360º Glass HEPA filter absorbs up to 99.97 percent of particles as small as 0.3 microns, because it is so densely woven and packed together.

The high-efficiency filter fiber consists of 11.8 square feet of borosilicate (non-synthetic) microfibers, pleated 254 times. Like a vacuum, a layer of rubber seals the filter and keeps even the finest of microns from escaping back into the room. Its special layer of odor-eliminating carbon granules is an added bonus and can be used to reduce cooking odors (in my case) or fumes from painting rooms in your home. Of course, this is all a little hard to measure, so how exactly do you test its purifying abilities? I set out on a mission. We had cooked a pungent meal on a cold evening, so it was an opportune time to determine whether or not the Dyson could eliminate a noticeable amount of odor and oils in the air. I set the fan to mid-level airflow and oscillated it throughout the closed room. Within 15-20 minutes, I noticed a significant difference in air quality, and I was starting to breathe easier.

I turned it down to the lowest setting and set the built-in sleep timer for 7 hours (the timer can be set for up to 9 hours). When I awoke, the odor was completely gone and I was breathing better than I’d ever breathed in my home before. The bedroom and the air felt lighter, and it was easier to breathe. There was still a lingering aroma in the rest of the house, so I deployed the Pure Cool in our living room. Although it did not clear the air in my entire 2-story home, it made a dramatic difference in the air quality of my living room and nearby areas. This “Quiet Mark-accredited” appliance is so silent, I hardly noticed it was on throughout the night. When you have the device powered to levels 1-3 (used purely for purification, not for blowing cool air), you can barely hear a thing. It’s very useful for night-time purification. When running the fan at a higher air pressure for cooling, you’ll definitely hear the airflow, but it isn’t very loud or obnoxious at all. It’s definitely one of the quietest purifier fans I’ve ever come across.

The Pure Cool’s Air Multiplier™ technology does circulate air rather seamlessly. Even when powered to the highest fan level, the air pressure is not forceful or bothersome like other fans. (But I haven’t actually done this yet). Dyson’s Pure Cool isn’t the cheapest purifier or fan out there (it retails for around $499.99), but you’re really getting two very effective appliances in one. In the colder months, the Pure Cool can be used as a purifier using the lowest settings of 1-3. In spring and summer, just bump up the fan power to levels 4-10 and instantly cool and purify your space with a long-range of circulated airflow.
