Nintendo Wii - Errors reading disks in Help / Advice Forum I've had the Wii since it came out in the US (probably around December 2006?) My kids love the darn thing but within the last four months or so, some games just won't play anymore and other things have lots of problems. For example, New Super Mario Brothers Wii won't even load at all. My Netflix disk is about 50/50 with whether it will load or give me the error that says remove the disk and restart. I have not modded the box and i do have it updated to the latest version from Nintendo. Some games will play just fine though, for example, Mario Party 8 doesn't seem to have any problems (so far), or mario sluggers.
I keep my games in fairly good condition so i do not believe that the problem are scratches on disks or anything like that. I'm thinking that the device is just old and probably needs to be replaced but i'm wondering if anyone else has any suggestions just in case there is a less expensive solution. I'm kind of hesitant to break the thing open because it does still work for some games but if there is something i can do to fix it and you could provide step by step instructions i'm willing to give it a try. Thanks in advance for any help/ideas. 3DS Friend Code: 0705-3757-3938PailryderAugust 20100 If you end up having to replace it, Dell has the black Wii on sale for $170 right now. I don't know how long the sale goes, but its up right now. matt has a problem When I had this same problem, the only troubleshooting tip the manual offered was "send in for repair" unfortunately. The drive on ours had gone bad. matt has a problemAugust 2010 I had problems with one specific Wii game not loading 80% of the time, so I exchanged it, and still had the problem.
It was Metroid Prime Trilogy. I think my laser was unable to read the dual-layered disk, but NSMBWii shouldn't be on one of those. I called Nintendo and they had me do some tests, and then told me that they'd send me a shipping label to have it repaired for free. My Wii was 3 years old, and out of warranty, and I was shocked that Nintendo was being so awesome. Sent it in, waited about 10 days, and I was playing MP:T just fine after that. Call them up and see what they say. I hope they do for you what they did for me. We had a launch Wii and ran in to the same problems. It would not play discs. It was past the warranty timeframe and they still offered to send it in and get it repaired. Of course, they replaced the disc drive. But I was very disappointed. It was playing games, but when a place "fixes" your system, you would think that they would clean it out while they have the cover off. But the same dust that was on the vents and around the fans was all still there. All they did was pop it open, replace the disc drive and send it back.
I complained with Nintendo and they went against their normal policy and sent us a brand new Wii and even transferred all of our account info (paid for games) to the new system.car air duct cleaning Then...we got a PS3 and I have hardly turned the Wii on. air purifiers for dust removalThe kids play theirs a lot though.toilet seat air purifier The only real advice I can give is a "voo doo fix"; IE, this worked for me, and a bunch of other people, but I don't really have any real reason why. At any rate, it's worth a try. Unplug the Wii COMPLETELY; all wires to and from the unit, including any controllers and cables. Then let it sit for a few hours, plug everything back in, and try again. However, if the problem is that unpredictable (some games always work, and others don't, and you can't find any scratches), I really doubt that would fix it.
It does remind me of a similar problem I had with a CD player years ago when the disc reader got dirty/dusty. To that end, maybe try a lens cleaning kit? Best Buy appears to sell them for the Wii for about ten bucks, and it's worth a shot before you write the unit off as dead. Sign In or Register to comment.
