The terms go hand in hand. What makes carbon or charcoal “activated” is that fact that it  has been specially treated with oxygen in order to open up the pores of the carbon atoms. What this does is increases the surface area of the charcoal and makes it very porous, allowing it to do a better job at absorbing certain types of airborne particles. Most notably, this type of filter is excellent at absorbing odors and gases. This includes odors from smoke, pets, chemicals, mold, cooking, etc. Once these particles flow through the charcoal, they become attached to the surface and trapped, unable to return back into the air. Where is the best placement for the Moso Bag?It depends on the bag’s size and purpose. It is best to put the bag in fairly open areas where air can pass through – it’s not good to tuck it away or place it underneath things (unless, of course, you’re using it for a gym bag or hamper – but when you’re placing it in a room or a car, you want to have air circulation around the bag). You do not have to hang the Moso Bag, unless you find it more convenient to store it that way. Placing it on a table is enough. The Moso Bag can be placed on absolutely any surface or material. Why does the bag only last for two years?The Moso Bag works by adsorbing pollutants from the air and temporarily storing them in its’ pores until rejuvenation.

Once placed outside in the sun, the UV rays release and disintegrate the pollutants. Some of the more serious toxins, such as formaldehyde, can leave a very small amount of residue behind in the pores. This builds up over time, making the Moso Bag less effective at adsorbing particles out of the air. Sometimes the bag lasts more than two years; you will have to be the judge of that. How do I rejuvenate the bag?To rejuvenate, we recommend placing your bag in the sun once a month for at least one hour. We recommend flipping over the Moso Bag occasionally while it is in the sun so all of the bamboo charcoal can rejuvenate. If you live somewhere that doesn’t have much sun, know that the Moso Bag will last for more than 30 days without sun, and in some cases as long as 90 days. However, you’ll get the best performance when you put it in the sun every 30 days.

I really don’t get a lot of sun where I live; do I have to put it outside? The Moso Bag does not need heat to rejuvenate. The UV rays from the sun rejuvenate the Moso Bag and there are UV rays even on cold days. The sun may not be as strong through, so leave it outside for two hours instead of one. Placing it inside behind a sunny window, may not be effective because most windows block out essential UV rays for rejuvenation. Can I rejuvenate it in the oven? I left my Moso Bag in the rain; It may not have that fresh, out-of-the-package look but it is not permanently damaged. Simply place the bag in the sun to let it dry out. Once it’s dry, the charcoal will begin to work again. Can the bamboo charcoal be recycled?Bamboo charcoal is an amazing product. After two years as an air purifier, the bamboo charcoal makes a wonderful addition to your garden, where it promotes plant growth and completes its lifecycle as a product that comes from the earth and ultimately gives back to the earth.
