We have had this machine nearly a year and it is on 90% of the time. We only switch it off when we go out. I have no idea whether it is doing anything or not! It's noisy and the filters are not great... only removes large dust particles and mould. You can't sleep with it on - it's like a jet engine in the room. Before turning it on, I followed the instructions and checked there were no pieces of polythene etc wrapping the filters or other parts of the appliance.
