I have a 489 bbc in my 64. RPM and RPM airgap is same height. Hood clearance is limited I went with a 2" cowl hood I have a RPM airgap but use a 1/2" carb spacer and 1/2" air cleaner spacer summit drop base air cleaner with 4" filter and still 1/2-1" more room so figure with same drop base air cleaner and no spacers a 3" filter would fit with stock hood on my car. Tried several headers(hooker, Hedman 5002)finally ended with Dougs D322 they fit pretty good for of-shelf 2" primary headers and doesnt hang lower than the others I tried but ground clearance was/is limited with all I tried.

There also limited space engine to radiator imho short water pump makes life easier to fit a good fan/rad combo mech or electric. 66-67 BB radiator is a direct fit remove the radiator spacer if your car came with one. Its a 68 Chevelle ps line was the only one avaible fast when I did the swap think it only fitted with it laying on the inner fender like that(dont remember is almost 10 years since the swap and I learned to live with it that way), has a spare 66 version but havent checked if its a better fit. If you have the reservoir ps pump Alan groove makes brackets that work with short water pump and that style ps pump. Pickups used short waterpump longer I belive and same or very close to same brackets as Chevelle with short pump and pump was very close with minor differences like the location of the return line. New Alan Grove BBC SWP PS and Alt brackets installed...pics inside. 1964 - 68 Chevelle This member use oem hood. BBC swap in 64 - intake and air cleaner info And like I stated if I remove the 1/2" carb spacer and 1/2" air cleaner spacer and used a 2.5"-3" air filter I sure my oem hood would clear my air cleaner with my RPM airgap and a cheap summit chrome drop base air cleaner.
